San Francisco  – Viberone of the world’s leading messaging apps has launched Viber Communities, becoming the first messaging app to offer a chat space where up to 1 billion users can exchange messages and all form of content. Where the market currently limits group chats to hundreds or thousands of users, Viber is pushing the limit and giving users a unique opportunity to connect global audiences on a massive scale never seen before in the messaging app industry – up to 1 billion users in a single group chat.

With tiered management roles and powerful moderation tools, Community admins now have the perfect product for managing, engaging, and growing large-scale, active groups around interests, experiences, causes and more — all on the familiar interface of their go-to messaging app. Viber will also introduce new monetization features that will enable Community owners to build revenue models upon their Communities as they grow them.

New Community members have access to the complete history of a Community and can contribute to the conversation with all of Viber’s messaging features—such as GIFs, stickers, pictures, video, and, of course, simple text. Maintaining Viber’s commitment to user privacy and security, only members’ names are displayed within the Community, with their phone numbers hidden from other members.

Superadmins control Community member roles—with the ability to add members and promote them to admin or superadmin status, ban or block members, decide whether or not they can participate in conversations, and if they can invite new members into the Community. Superadmins can grow the Community and make it publicly available by enabling a share link, or revoke the link at any time. They can also decide to activate monetization features, according to their policy and community objective, and Viber will facilitate and support revenue generation.

Superadmins can also assign admins responsibilities to support them in moderating conversations with the option to delete one or all messages sent by any member, and by pinning messages to guide discussions. Admins have the ability to add or remove members when needed.

Select partners already have their Viber Communities up and running. French football club, Olympique de Marseille, engages fans with exclusive opportunities to chat with the club’s stars and management. Sports content creation and distribution company, Minute Media, runs Viber Communities to deliver on their promise to give sports fans a voice. Digital content-lending service OverDrive leverages Viber Communities to manage local book clubs run by public libraries across the U.S.
